The Desire to Help and the Awkward Overlap With Over Giving

Hypnotherapists Over Giving

In our roles as hypnotherapists, voiceover artists, and agency professionals, our mission is clear: to make a positive impact without over giving.

But when you help others, it's easy to lose sight of your own well-being and you may begin to wonder “How do I stop over giving?”

Let's delve into practical strategies to strike a balance between supporting others and taking care of yourself.

Understand Your Motivations To Help: When you’re called to make a positive impact, it shouldn’t come at the price of your mental or physical health.

So it’s vital to understand why you want to help others and then apply that to yourself first, and then give from a place of balance.

Do you want to help people because it makes you feel good? Perfect, help yourself first until you feel good and then give from a place of empowerment.

Each of our motivations is unique, but what you’ll find is that you can apply it to yourself first.

Set Clear Boundaries: Easier said than done, right?! 😊 Setting boundaries can feel really challenging for empathetic people.

You may not want to let someone down or to have them think less of you for saying no.

If you struggle with setting boundaries, start with setting boundaries with yourself and when you set them, make sure it’s something you know you’ll follow through on.

This will help you build this muscle and it will make it easier to set boundaries with others in the long run.

How do I stop over giving?

Prioritizing Non Fluffy Self-Care: When you’ve set out to make a difference in the world, saying no is your first line of defense when it comes to self-care.

And the next thing to do is to look at your life and figure out where you can find balance. As a reminder, it’s just not normal to be so busy all the time.

It’s a societal expectation and a byproduct of capitalism, but it sucks the life out of you and makes the rest of your life harder.

Real self-care can mean making significant changes to your life so you can be a more relaxed and balanced human being.

When you feel led to make a positive impact, realize that little things can make a really big difference.

So it’s okay to go slow and find the balance between giving and making your needs a priority.
